Talk about out with the old, in with the new! In the last few days, Adrianne Palicki has 1) played her final scene as Tyra Colette on “Friday Night Lights,” 2) joined in a cast and crew wrap party for the acclaimed show, and 3) flown to Dallas in time to begin production on her new series – Fox’s “Lone Star” – this week.

Adrianne tells us she’s glad for the immediate turn-around between the series. It keeps her from getting too down about saying goodbye to a show and cast she’s loved. According to her, creator Peter Berg and all of the original cast members of “Friday Night Lights” planned to be on hand for the farewell gathering, which she anticipated as “a good occasion for all of us. It was such a beautiful thing to be a part of.”

Another series was hardly on top of her wish list when she first heard of “Lone Star,” she admits. “I’d had such an amazing experience on ‘Friday Night Lights,’ I couldn’t imagine something else coming along of that level. I was thinking about a movie, which would only be a three-month commitment.” Then her reps asked her to read “Lone Star,” in which James Wolk plays a con man who has set up two different false lives for himself, including a rich fiancée (Palicki) in Dallas and an everyday home town girl wife (Eloise Mumford) in Midland.

“The character I would normally play is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, so when they said Cat (the rich girl), I thought I’d love to play someone so different from anything I’ve done before.” Meeting Wolk sealed the deal, she says. “You have to have the right actor to play Bob, or the show can’t work. He’s perfect.”

And there’s a side benefit – fashion.

“Oh, my God! Even in the pilot alone! I’ve never worn Manolos in my life and now I have three pairs in the wardrobe. Amazing Versace and Valentino. I thought, ‘Why didn’t I put it in my contract that I want to keep the clothes?’ I usually wear jeans, so kind of getting dressed up every day is really fun.” Maybe she’ll take to it and we’ll be seeing her with a $40,000 handbag soon? She laughs. “Not unless it’s a rental.”

Tyra Collette was the ultimate blonde bombshell on Friday Night Lights. So when Adrianne Palicki, the actress who played her, visited the Allure office last week, we were surprised to see her with long, auburn locks—and even more surprised that we weren’t jonesing for her to go back to blonde. The girl couldn’t go wrong even if she had blue hair; after all, she is stunning. But the auburn looks great with her skin and just feels fresh. (You can check out Palicki with the look when her new show, Lone Star, starts on Fox on September 20.)

If you want to make a drastic color change yourself, keep these tips in mind:

The key is to do it in stages. You’ll end up with a better color result and hair that’s less fried. Colorists advise not going more than two shades lighter in base color and four or five in highlights at one time. If you’re a brunette who wants to be a blonde, it usually takes anywhere from four to six sessions. (Trust me—I tried to do it in a day and ended up strawberry-blonde.)

Red hair dye fades faster than blonde or brown—so you have to be extra-vigilant in protecting it from sun and water damage. Use a spray that contains UV filters when you’re at the beach (try Redken Color Extend Sun Solar Screen SPF 12), and in the shower, try to keep your head away from the water spout when you’re not shampooing or conditioning.

Stock up on a good hair mask. A big color change will leave your hair a little drier and frizzier, but a weekly treatment that contains keratin or shea butter will help restore its softness. (Try Alberto VO5 Hot Oil Weekly Intense Conditioning Treatment or Fekkai Shea Butter Hair Mask.)

“Lone Star” is going to be premiering on Monday, September 20th at 9pm on Fox!

We didn’t recognize you in the ‘Lone Star’ preview clips – you’re a brunette now!
Well it’s kind of awesome because it’s such a different character. There are so many “Friday Night Lights” fans that I think maybe the hair will take them out of it a little bit. They won’t be like – ‘That’s Tyra!’

We’re used to seeing you as the wild child high school girl and now you’re playing Cat, a classy oil heiress. It’s a big leap! What drew you to the character?
It was absolutely the fact that she’s completely different from any other character I’ve ever played. I do tend to play the girl from the wrong side of the tracks but they all tend to be strong women and she is as well. Even though [Cat] comes from this really rich background, she still has her own issues. She still has Daddy issues. She wants to get out of the socialite world.

The Daddy issues are with Jon Voight, who plays your father. That’s kind of cool.
It’s awesome! He is one of the most lovely people I have ever met. He’s such a giving actor and he’s so sincere and he’s really come in and been like, ‘I’m Papa.’ And at the same time, even though he’s working with such a young cast, he’s been completely involved and like one of us. He’s goofy and funny.

People are going to hear oil and money and scandal and call it a modern-day “Dallas.” How right or wrong is that?
I call it a ‘Dallas’-meets-‘Friday Night Lights.’ I think it has that heart and that realism and at the same time it does have that glossy, soapy. So I think it’s going to bring in a very dynamic audience. It’s a very interesting concept for a show and I don’t think it’s been done before.

How is filming the show in Dallas?
At this point now, I’m an honorary Texan, which I’m totally fine with, by the way. I love Texas. Dallas is nice. It’s a different environment, it’s a different world. Thankfully I have a lot of friends there, because half the cast of “Friday Night Lights” is from Dallas. I love Austin more than I love any place on Earth. Everybody’s nice. Nobody gives a crap about what you do for a living. It’s just a real homegrown fun environment. And between the Tex-Mex and the margaritas… Oh my god!

I am so very excited to have this confirmed!

Two more Friday Night Lights all-stars are headed back to Dillon for the show’s probable endgame: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) and Taylor Kitsch (Tim) have finalized deals to appear in multiple episodes of the drama’s fifth and likely final season (slated to premiere on DirecTV next fall).

I’m told Palicki will guest in next season’s last two episodes, while Kitsch has signed on for the final four.

The news follows my earlier scoop that another original Panther, Zach Gilford (Matt), is returning for four episodes (including the finale). Gilford’s onscreen BFF, Jesse Plemons, is also in talks to appear in the swan song. And last but certainly not least, Scott Porter’s coming back for episode 7, but that’s old news.

As we recently heard, some members of the Chinese press aren’t too happy about the country’s depiction as invaders in the RED DAWN remake.

Turns out they may not have a movie to worry about — the update of the kid-guerrilla classic was originally scheduled for release in November, but as of now it’s nowhere in sight.

No, the studio didn’t flinch after the negative feedback. In truth, there’s not really a studio at the moment — RED DAWN was an MGM production. And MGM’s widely publicized problems means that until the studio stabilizes and/or its existing projects find a new home, the movie is in limbo. As the LA Times claims, “no one knows when the movie will ever be released”.

The 1984 John Milius flick starred Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen leading a group of Colorado teens battling an invasion by Russian and Cuban armies. The new version (which has Chinese military as the antagonists) stars Chris “Thor” Hemsworth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Peck and Connor “Son of Tom” Cruise.
